The 50th Anniversary of 911 Calls

Today is a momentous day for emergency telecommunicators and the people who support them in their efforts to protect our communities.  50 years ago, the first 911 call was made in Haleyville, Alabama.  It’s hard for many of us to imagine a country without 911 after all the dispatchers and administrators have done for the country.

The past 50 years have brought about many changes for 911.  Originally, the emergency number was available to 17% of the population, but now the entire country can call for immediate help.  The history of 911 must be celebrated today.

But we must also look to the future.  We are living in a very exciting time for 911 as the industry begins to make its first moves into Next Generation 911.  Today’s telecommunicators must manage various forms of communication to protect their communities.  As the world of 911 continues to evolve, we look forward to helping our customers on this path.

On this day, and every other, Applied Digital is proud to serve our nation’s PSAPs.  Thank you for all the great work you do every day!
